"At the Gates" 11'x12'
Hand painting and screenprinting with MX dye and devore on azeta-poly cotton

If you've been lucky enough to see Emily Nachison's work in person then you know just how stunning it is. Part of this is the size - no that's not a typo, the piece above is 11 by 12 feet. But more than just scale, the power of Emily's work comes though her detailed and intricate layering of folk-lore imagery, which she uses to examine the "amplified nature of memory and fantasy, as well as the inescapable presence of the natural world."

Emily, who's originally from Southern California, has been calling the Bay Area home for the last two years, but will be leaving soon to pursue her MFA at Cranbrook in Michigan. You can see more of Emily's work on her website, which she tells us will be updated soon with new work, a blog, and a limited edition collection of screenprinted t-shirts for sale. For those of you without entire walls to fill, Emily also has smaller scale work available. You can contact her directly if you're interested in purchasing her work.

(Full disclosure: Emily and I briefly went to college together several years ago.)
